Aalto on Fire is where art and architecture collide with engineering and business. We are taking a group of Aalto students, faculty and alumni to the desert and Black Rock City, the home of Burning Man. The group will co-create and transport an interactive art installation that will be displayed at Burning Man festival, the largest gathering of creative individuals in the world.
The aim of the project is to take Aalto students and faculty members from different schools and backgrounds to the most unlikely place in the world to discover their full creative potential and use it to bring something unique back to the Aalto community.
In previous years Aalto has taken 100's of students by train, plane, ferry and automobile to China, Brazil and South Africa, through the project format of "Aalto on...".
This year we are testing the model on a new unique case, this case being the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada USA. Some challenges for this year come in the form of limited tickets, as this is a festival that can only sell 70,000 tickets (which it does so globally within the first 45mins of ticket sales). Thankfully we are working with the Burning Man organisers and have earmarked several tickets, however this will not be a typical "Aalto on" project in terms of 50-100 participants travelling yet it will most definitely be in terms of impact and scope!
Please join us as we co-create this new iteration of the wonderful "Aalto on" project format. We will deliver a powerful collaborative art piece to the festival not to mention have amazing learning experiences leading to, during and after the festival itself. Lets continue to make history.
For 7 blistering days this inhospitable landscape will play host to 70,000 people from all over the world, as they interact, build, share and express themselves through any means they create.
